Barbecue Pork Ribs

Tender, fall-off-the-bone pork ribs smothered in a smoky barbecue sauce. These ribs are slow-cooked to perfection and finished on the grill or in the oven for a caramelized, flavorful finish.

  • 2 racks baby back pork ribs (about 4 lbs)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs for better texture.
  3. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  4. Rub the spice mix all over the ribs on both sides. Place ribs on the foil-lined baking sheet and cover tightly with more foil.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 2.5 to 3 hours, until ribs are tender.
  6. Preheat grill to medium-high or set oven broiler to high.
  7. Remove ribs from foil and brush generously with barbecue sauce. Grill or broil for 5–10 minutes, turning and basting until sauce is caramelized and sticky.
  8. Let rest for a few minutes, then slice and serve with extra sauce if desired.

Notes

  • For smokier flavor, cook the ribs on a grill over indirect heat for the full cooking time.
  • Ribs can be cooked a day ahead and finished on the grill before serving.
  • Use your favorite barbecue sauce or make your own for a custom touch.
