Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry

A classic Chinese-American dish featuring tender slices of beef stir-fried with crisp broccoli in a savory garlic-ginger soy sauce. Perfect for a quick, satisfying dinner served over rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and beef broth. Set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add sliced beef and cook until browned, about 3–4 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add remaining oil. Add garlic and ginger, sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add broccoli and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes. Add a splash of water and cover for 1–2 minutes to steam until just tender.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet. Pour in the sauce and toss everything together to coat well.
  6. Cook for another 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything is heated through.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.
  8. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly and against the grain for the most tender texture.
  • Use fresh or frozen broccoli — just adjust cooking time accordingly.
  • Add sliced bell peppers or snap peas for extra color and crunch.
  • Great for meal prep and leftovers reheat well.
