Chocolate Buttercream Truffles

Chocolate Buttercream Truffles are rich, bite-sized confections made with creamy chocolate buttercream centers coated in a smooth chocolate shell—perfect for gifting or indulging in a decadent treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 12 tablespoons heavy cream or milk (as needed)
  • 8 oz semisweet or dark chocolate (for coating)
  • Optional: sprinkles, sea salt, or chopped nuts for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt; beat until well combined.
  2. Add heavy cream or milk 1 tablespoon at a time until mixture is smooth and pipeable but firm enough to hold shape.
  3. Refrigerate for 15–20 minutes until slightly firm. Scoop and roll into 1-inch balls. Place on parchment-lined tray.
  4. Freeze truffles for 20–30 minutes until firm.
  5. Melt chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  6. Dip each chilled buttercream ball into melted chocolate using a fork, letting excess drip off. Place back on tray.
  7. Decorate with sprinkles, salt, or nuts while chocolate is wet. Chill until set.
  8. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for best flavor and smooth coating.
  • Adjust cocoa and sugar amounts for darker or sweeter filling.
  • For smoother rolling, chill the filling briefly if it softens too much.
  • Great for holidays, Valentine’s Day, or edible gifts.
