Deliciously soft pretzel-shaped pastries filled with gooey chocolate chips, perfect for a sweet snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup baking soda (for boiling water bath)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar or sea salt for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add sugar, melted butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
  4. Fold in the mini chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  5. Cover the dough and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into a pretzel.
  8. In a large pot, bring 6 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  9. Gently dip each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Remove and place on the baking sheet.
  10. Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar or salt, if desired.
  11. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can use dark or milk chocolate chips depending on your preference.
  • Serve warm for the best gooey chocolate experience.
