Chocolate Cream-Filled Thumbprint Cookies

Chocolate Cream-Filled Thumbprint Cookies are rich, buttery cookies with a soft center filled with a smooth and creamy chocolate ganache, perfect for holiday trays or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg yolks and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  6. Use your thumb or the back of a spoon to make an indentation in the center of each ball.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just lightly golden. Remove and let cool on the baking sheet.
  8. Meanwhile, prepare the chocolate filling by heating the heavy cream until steaming (but not boiling), then pour over chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon butter. Let sit for 1–2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  9. Spoon or pipe the ganache into the indentations of each cooled cookie. Let set before serving.

Notes

  • Allow cookies to cool completely before filling to prevent the ganache from melting.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Chill the ganache-filled cookies for a firmer center.
