Chocolate Loaf Cake

A moist, rich chocolate loaf cake made with cocoa powder and melted butter for a deep chocolate flavor and tender crumb.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix melted butter (or oil), eggs, vanilla, and milk.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until just combined—do not overmix.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Add espresso powder (1 tsp) to enhance the chocolate flavor.
  • For extra moisture, replace half the milk with sour cream or yogurt.
  • Top with chocolate ganache for a richer dessert.
