- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 8 slices thick-cut bread (brioche or challah recommended)
- 2 tbsp butter for cooking
- Maple syrup, for serving
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, sugar, and salt.
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a bit of butter.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides but not oversoaking.
- Place the soaked bread onto the hot skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Repeat with remaining slices, adding more butter as needed.
- Serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for best texture—it absorbs the mixture without becoming soggy.
- Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth and flavor.
- For crisp edges, cook with a mix of butter and a little oil.
