Creamy Homemade Hot Chocolate

Creamy Homemade Hot Chocolate is a rich and indulgent drink made with real cocoa powder, milk, and melted chocolate for an ultra-smooth and velvety texture — perfect for warming up on chilly days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk (or any milk of choice)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk, heavy cream (if using), cocoa powder, sugar, and salt until well combined and warmed through.
  2. Add chopped chocolate and whisk continuously until completely melted and smooth, about 2–3 minutes.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract and remove from heat.
  4. Pour into mugs and top with your favorite toppings like whipped cream or marshmallows. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the richest flavor.
  • For a dairy-free version, use almond, oat, or soy milk and skip the heavy cream.
  • Customize with peppermint extract, cinnamon, or a dash of espresso powder for flavor variations.
  • Double the recipe to serve a crowd — keep warm in a slow cooker on low heat.
