Fresh Apple and Cabbage Slaw with Bacon Bits

A crisp and tangy slaw made with fresh cabbage, sweet apple slices, and savory bacon bits, tossed in a creamy dressing. This refreshing side dish is perfect for barbecues, picnics, or as a crunchy topping for sandwiches and burgers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups green cabbage, thinly shredded
  • 1 cup red cabbage, thinly shredded
  • 2 medium apples (such as Gala or Honeycrisp), cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon bits
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded green cabbage, red cabbage, sliced apples, bacon bits, and red onion.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, honey, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  3. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss until evenly coated.
  4. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Serve cold as a side dish or as a topping for sandwiches and burgers.

Notes

  • For a lighter option, replace mayonnaise with Greek yoghurt.
  • Add toasted walnuts or pecans for extra crunch.
  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a tangier flavor.
  • This slaw can be made ahead but is best enjoyed within 24 hours for maximum crunch.
