- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 8 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional)
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and chopped chocolate together, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
- Whisk in the granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined.
- Add eggs one at a time, whisking vigorously after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold into the mixture until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips or chunks if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
- Cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
