German Chocolate Pie Bars

Rich and gooey German chocolate pie bars featuring a buttery crust, a fudgy chocolate layer, and a classic coconut-pecan topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the crust mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the chocolate chips with the sweetened condensed milk over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  5. Remove from heat, then stir in the egg and vanilla. Pour the mixture over the partially baked crust.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine pecans, coconut, brown sugar, and melted butter. Sprinkle evenly on top of the chocolate layer.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and set.
  8. Allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • Chill the bars before cutting for cleaner slices.
  • Toast the pecans for deeper flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
