  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Optional: frosting or powdered sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Add the dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour, mixing just until combined.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cake in the pan on a wire rack. Frost or dust with powdered sugar if desired.
