Harissa Orange Salmon Patties

Harissa Orange Salmon Patties are flavorful fish cakes made with flaky salmon, zesty orange, and smoky harissa paste, pan-seared until golden and served with your choice of sauce or salad for a bold, North African-inspired meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked salmon (fresh or canned), flaked
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1 tbsp harissa paste
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 tbsp orange juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley or cilantro
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil, for frying
  • Optional: Greek yogurt or aioli for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine salmon, egg, breadcrumbs, harissa paste, orange zest, orange juice, parsley, green onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form mixture into 6–8 patties and place on a plate. Chill in the fridge for 15–20 minutes to help them firm up.
  3. Heat olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  4. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  5. Serve warm with a dollop of Greek yogurt, aioli, or a fresh salad on the side.

Notes

  • Adjust harissa to taste depending on spice level preference.
  • Fresh salmon can be baked, grilled, or poached before flaking for this recipe.
  • Patties can be made ahead and refrigerated or frozen before cooking.
  • Serve with couscous, pita, or a citrusy slaw for a complete meal.
