Homemade Cranberry Sauce

A simple, fresh, and tangy homemade cranberry sauce made with whole cranberries, sugar, and orange zest—perfect for holiday meals.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries, rinsed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water or orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, and water (or orange juice).
  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 10–12 minutes until cranberries burst and the mixture thickens.
  4. Stir in orange zest and salt.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Sauce will thicken as it cools.
  6. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, blend after cooking.
  • Add cinnamon or cloves for a spiced version.
  • Can be made up to 5 days in advance.
