Homemade Tomato Apple Chutney

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 4 large tomatoes, chopped
- 2 apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and garlic; sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in chopped tomatoes and apples; cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, chili flakes (if using), and salt.
- Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Transfer to sterilized jars and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month or process for longer storage.
Notes
- Great as a topping for grilled meats or with cheese platters.
- Adjust spices to taste for more or less heat.
- For smoother texture, blend partially or fully after cooking.
- Can be canned using proper sterilization methods for longer shelf life.
