Hungarian Chocolate Noodle Pudding

A traditional Hungarian dessert made with egg noodles, rich chocolate, and a sweet custard, baked to a comforting and decadent treat.

  • 8 oz (225g) wide egg noodles
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and place in a large bowl.
  3. Stir melted butter into the noodles until evenly coated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon (if using), and salt.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the noodles and stir to combine.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate.
  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is lightly golden.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • Can be served warm or chilled.
  • Use high-quality chocolate for richer flavor.
  • Try adding raisins or chopped nuts for texture variation.
