- 12 oz elbow macaroni or rigatoni
- 2 cups cooked beef chunks (steak, roast, or brisket)
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or gouda (optional)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp melted butter (for breadcrumbs)
- Sour cream for topping
- Optional: paprika or chili powder for garnish
- Boil pasta until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt butter and stir in flour to make a roux. Cook for 1 minute.
- Whisk in milk gradually and cook until thickened.
- Add cheeses, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
- Fold in cooked beef and pasta until evenly coated.
- Pour mixture into a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
- Combine breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle on top.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let rest for 5 minutes. Serve with sour cream and a dash of paprika or chili powder.
Notes
- Use sharp cheddar for bold flavor and mozzarella for extra creaminess.
- Breadcrumb topping adds crunch but is optional.
