Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring; mix until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop dough into balls and place on the baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

  • Chill the dough for 20 minutes if you prefer thicker cookies.
  • Substitute white chocolate chips for a sweeter flavor contrast.
  • Do not overbake—cookies continue to set as they cool.
