Sausages with Onions

A simple and hearty dish of pan-seared sausages cooked with caramelized onions, perfect for a quick weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pork sausages
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water or broth

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sausages and cook until browned on all sides, about 8–10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add the sliced onions to the same skillet and season with salt, pepper, and thyme.
  4. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until softened and caramelized, about 10–12 minutes.
  5. Return the sausages to the skillet and add the water or broth.
  6. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes until sausages are fully cooked and flavors combine.
  7. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.

Notes

  • Use chicken or turkey sausages for a lighter version.
  • Add a splash of balsamic vinegar for sweeter, deeper onion flavor.
  • Great served over creamy mashed potatoes.
