- 400g firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch (for coating)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for pan-frying)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (slurry)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Press tofu for at least 15–20 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into cubes.
- Toss tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add tofu and cook until all sides are golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the same skillet and bring to a simmer. Add cornstarch slurry and stir until sauce thickens, about 1–2 minutes.
- Return crispy tofu to the pan and toss to coat evenly in the glaze.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
Notes
- Make it gluten-free by using tamari instead of soy sauce.
- Add steamed broccoli or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
- Adjust sweetness and acidity to your taste.
- Air fry tofu for a lighter option.
