Sesame Soy Glazed Tofu

Sesame Soy Glazed Tofu is a flavorful and protein-packed vegan dish featuring crispy tofu cubes tossed in a sticky, savory-sweet glaze made from soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and a hint of sweetness. Perfect served over rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 400g firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for pan-frying)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (slurry)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Press tofu for at least 15–20 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into cubes.
  2. Toss tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add tofu and cook until all sides are golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture into the same skillet and bring to a simmer. Add cornstarch slurry and stir until sauce thickens, about 1–2 minutes.
  6. Return crispy tofu to the pan and toss to coat evenly in the glaze.
  7. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Make it gluten-free by using tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • Add steamed broccoli or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Adjust sweetness and acidity to your taste.
  • Air fry tofu for a lighter option.
