- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cream, stirring constantly until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- Add the shrimp to the sauce and mix well to coat.
- Transfer the shrimp and sauce to a greased baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle evenly over the shrimp mixture.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving, if desired.
Notes
- Use raw shrimp as it will cook perfectly during baking without becoming rubbery.
- You can substitute Gruyère or mozzarella for a different cheese flavor profile.
- To make ahead, assemble the dish and refrigerate before baking, adding 5 extra minutes to cook time.
- Pairs well with rice, pasta, or crusty bread.
