Tender chicken breasts seared in garlic butter and topped with a fresh, vibrant basil sauce, all cooked in one skillet for a flavorful and easy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for a richer sauce)
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add chicken and sear for 5-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. Lower heat to medium, add butter and garlic to the skillet, and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  6. If using, add heavy cream and stir to combine.
  7. Add chopped basil and lemon juice, simmer for 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  8. Return chicken to the skillet and spoon sauce over the top. Simmer for 2 more minutes.
  9. Garnish with Parmesan cheese if desired and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use thin chicken cutlets for faster cooking.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a slight kick.
  • This dish pairs well with pasta, mashed potatoes, or crusty bread.
  • Use fresh basil for the best flavor, not dried.
