- 1.5 lbs ground beef (85/15)
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce or ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 12–16 slider buns
- Pickled jalapeños, to taste
- 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Butter (optional, for toasting buns)
- In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté diced onion until soft and translucent, about 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned and crumbled, about 5–7 minutes.
- Stir in tomato sauce (or ketchup), brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until sauce thickens. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Optional: Butter the insides of slider buns and toast on a skillet until golden brown.
- Spoon Sloppy Joe mixture onto bottom halves of buns. Top with pickled jalapeños and red onion slices. Add top buns.
- Serve warm, arranged on a platter for easy grabbing.
Notes
- Add smoked paprika or chipotle powder for a smoky twist.
- Swap beef with plant-based ground meat or lentils for a vegetarian version.
- Top with cheese like cheddar or pepper jack for extra indulgence.
- Use Hawaiian rolls for a sweeter slider or gluten-free buns if needed.
- Reheat meat gently with broth or water; assemble fresh for best texture.
