A classic Sloppy Joe recipe featuring seasoned ground beef simmered in a tangy, slightly sweet tomato sauce and served on soft hamburger buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional)
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic; cook until softened.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, pepper, and chili powder.
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
  6. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the buns and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken as a lighter option.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • Serve with pickles or coleslaw for extra crunch.
