- 1 small onion, diced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional)
- 4 hamburger buns
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic; cook until softened.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, pepper, and chili powder.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
- Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the buns and serve warm.

- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
