- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups peeled and finely chopped apples (about 2 medium apples)
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
- Fold in chopped apples and nuts, if using.
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
Notes
- Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for depth of flavor.
- Add a simple glaze or dust with powdered sugar for presentation.
- Store wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
