Steak and Gravy Bowl

Steak and Gravy Bowl is a hearty, comforting dish that combines tender, juicy steak slices with a rich, savory gravy served over mashed potatoes or rice. Perfect for weeknight dinners or cozy meals, this satisfying dish brings together classic flavors in a simple, one-dish meal.

Ingredients

  • Steak (such as sirloin, ribeye, or flank, thinly sliced)
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil
  • Butter
  • All-purpose flour
  • Beef broth or stock
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic (minced, optional)
  • Onion (sliced, optional)
  • Mashed potatoes or cooked rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Season the sliced steak with salt and black pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steak slices for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and just cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add butter and (if using) sauté garlic and onions until softened. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux. Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up browned bits from the pan. Simmer until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Return the steak slices to the skillet and stir to coat with gravy. Heat through.
  5. Spoon mashed potatoes or rice into serving bowls. Top with steak and gravy. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For mushroom gravy, add sliced mushrooms to the gravy for extra depth and texture.
  • For an herb twist, stir in fresh thyme or rosemary to enhance the flavor of the gravy.
  • For a spicy version, add red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce.
  • For a low-carb option, serve over cauliflower mash or steamed vegetables instead of potatoes or rice.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of broth or water to loosen the gravy.
