Sweet and Savory Glazed Meatballs

Sweet and Savory Glazed Meatballs are tender, juicy meatballs coated in a rich, tangy glaze made from a perfect blend of sweet and salty ingredients. Ideal as a party appetizer or served over rice for a comforting main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar (white or rice vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (slurry)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion, milk, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter).
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown meatballs on all sides until cooked through (about 8–10 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, mix ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, and mustard. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  5. Add cornstarch slurry and stir until the glaze thickens, about 1–2 minutes.
  6. Return meatballs to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the glaze. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.
  7. Serve hot as an appetizer or over rice or noodles for a main dish.

Notes

  • Use a cookie scoop for even-sized meatballs.
  • The glaze can be made spicier with chili flakes or sriracha.
  • These meatballs freeze well, glazed or unglazed.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can be used as a leaner alternative.
