- 500g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon vinegar (white or rice vinegar)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (slurry)
- In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion, milk, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Form into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter).
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown meatballs on all sides until cooked through (about 8–10 minutes). Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, mix ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, and mustard. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add cornstarch slurry and stir until the glaze thickens, about 1–2 minutes.
- Return meatballs to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the glaze. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.
- Serve hot as an appetizer or over rice or noodles for a main dish.
Notes
- Use a cookie scoop for even-sized meatballs.
- The glaze can be made spicier with chili flakes or sriracha.
- These meatballs freeze well, glazed or unglazed.
- Ground turkey or chicken can be used as a leaner alternative.
