Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 oz (340g) pasta (penne or fusilli preferred)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional: yogurt or crumbled feta for serving

Instructions

  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Stir in ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned.
  5. Season with cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  6. Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, and water. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  7. Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes until sauce thickens.
  8. Add cooked pasta to the sauce and stir until well combined and heated through.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley and optional yogurt or feta.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef for a lighter dish.
  • The cinnamon adds a warm Turkish flavor—adjust to taste.
  • Goes well with a side of cucumber yogurt salad or flatbread.
